Fishback and Blankenship take the top spot with 23.79!
Oliver and Eynard pop 21.82 for second!
Wieberg and Kleffner snatch 19.46 for third!
Lake of the Ozarks just continues to produce fantastic winter bass fishing, and Sunday was no mistake, as it has been taking well over 20LBS to win any of the fishing derbies held over the past few weeks. Just another tribute to one of the nations best bass fisheries right in our backyard! 61 teams Assembled at PB2 for the third of six Joe Bass tournaments sponsored by Bassingbob.com, for their chance to enjoy some very nice weather and try to bring in the winning sack of fish.
Taking the top spot today was the team of Rick Fishback and Terry Blankenship! Fishing from the toll bridge to the mid Gravois arm, the day started off a little slow for the top finishing team, but after a change in stick bait color and cadence, the bite was ON! Culling through at least 25 keepers Rick and Terry had a five fish limit top the scales at 23.79 pounds! included in their sack was the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass of the tournament weighing in at 5.87 pounds. The SPORTS BOATS USA key to success was three fold, 1) using a prototype stickbait Rick has been working on. 2) using the new Humminbird Helix Gen2 electronics, helped the team find their fish, 3) using the “Spot Lock” feature on the new Minn Kota Ultrex trolling motor helped them keep the boat in the right position.Rick and Terry are sponsored by Skeeter Boats, Phoenix Boats, Yamaha, Mercury, Chompers, Crock O Gator, Humminbird, Lew’s, Minn Kota and Sports Boats USA.
Taking the second spot today was a team of Nathan Oliver and Jamie Eynard. Like the first place team Stickbaits were the lure of choice. The team fished them around brush piles in the extra clear water of the dam area of the lake, culling through several keepers on an all day bite. The teams best 5 fish weighed in at 21.82 pounds. Included in their bag was the second big bass of the day also weighing 5.87 pounds but the 1st place team had the tiebreaker of earliest entry.
Taking the third place spot for the second tournament in a row with Joe Bass was the team of Joe Wieberg and Walon Kleffner. Joe and Walon fished stick baits and the a-rig on transition banks in the North shore and Gravois arm of the lake, but make an important cull at the end of the day in the lower Glaize arm. The team finished with a 5 bass limit weighing 19.46 pounds.
61 teams, 27 limits, 186 fish weighed and released.
Our next tournament will be March 19 7:00 take-off from PB2
Special thanks to the Bassing Bob crew supplying coffee and doughnuts in the morning and hotdogs in the afternoon. Also thanks to Rob Bueltmann for taking photos during the weigh in!
