The 3rd Stop for the Joe Bass Team Trail division on Smithville Lake Sponsored by Burton’s Bait & Tackle Was finally a beautiful day. For the First time this year the anglers did not have to battle crazy winds or snow as the day was picture perfect. The teams show up the boat ramp with 67 degree temps that ended up in the low 80s with light winds. The Low 80 degree temps did however entice the pleasure boaters to come out in full force for the afternoon. this in turn made the day a little tougher to catch them as the day got later.
Our First place team for the day is the team of Wesley Willett and Clint Cochran. This team has been on fire lately and today proved no different. They had a great day bringing in a total weight of 16.12lbs. Wes stated they fished the main lake early but the boat traffic later in the day made it tougher as the day got warmer. He also stated they caught most of the teams fish on senkos, brushogs and square bills and most of the teams keepers came in 1 to 10 feet of water with 79 – 82 degree water temperatures. They ended up catching fish all day but had to jump from spot to spot which ended up paying off as the team took the win.
Our 2nd Place team for the day goes to the duo of Jim Sloan and Jeff Stout with a total weight of 15.13lbs. Jeff Stated they fished towards the river part of the lake throwing jigs and worms in grass all in 2 to 4 foot of water. Jim also said they caught 10 keepers for the day and had caught fish all day long in 80 degree water temps.
Rounding out our top 3 is the team of Jeff and Justin Bottorff. This Brother duo is always finding their way to the top and did the same today with a total weight of 13.28lbs. Jeff Stated they threw the kitchen sink at the fish today but most of the fish came on finesse baits. Jeff said they fished the main lake in 10 to 15 feet of water to go through 7 keepers for the day.
Our NAPA big bass of the Day went to the Team of Richard Kiblinger and Greg Brown. Greg said Richard caught this fish today as he looked super happy about it as it was weighed in today!!!
Our Top Skeeter for the day went to Clint Cochran. Clint and Wes had an awesome day as they ended up winging it big with the Skeeter Boats top prize to go along with the win.
The Next Burtons Bait and Tackle Smithville lake event is on July 15 going out of Little Platte boat ramp from 6am to 3pm.
