03/10/19 Ozarks

Old man Winter still has his grip on the Ozarks!

After two consecutive cancellations in a row due to inclement weather, we finally got the opportunity to get one in. Originally scheduled for March 3rd, 22 teams made it for the March 10 make up date. The lake has been very stingy, not to mention very cold and dirty (38 degrees and stained to heavy stain in the lower end to muddy mid-lake and up). However, this group of anglers fishing the Bassing Bob Lake of the Ozarks Division, cinched down their hoods and helmets and went out in search of a 5 fish limit.

Taking the top spot today was the team of Scott and Scott Danek. The day started out slow for team Scott, fishing around the toll bridge area. With no keepers in the boat at 11:00 the team made a slight adjustment in location and began finding keeper fish on deeper swing banks where brush and shad were present. The team boated their 5th keeper after 2:30 and headed back to Alhonna Resort for weigh-in. Having one of only 5 limits on the day Scott and Scott were feeling blessed. but when they set the fish on the scales they pulled to the lead with 5 bass weighing 16.91 pounds. Included in their limit was the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass of the day weighing 5.47 pounds. Scott stated they caught their fish on jerkbaits and A-rig. Team Danek is sponsored by Nitro and Mercury.

Taking the second spot today was the team of Jason Weast and Scott Miles. this team had a wildly different approach to the day. Jason and Scott bundled up tucked in behind the consoles of their Bass Cat and took off, not stopping until they reached Proctor Creek some 50+ miles away! Once there they began fishing a wiggle wart on transition banks. the key for Jason and Scott was the warmer 42/43 degree yet dirty water. Jason reported catching almost 20 keepers on the day. At the end of the day, Jason and Scott made a charge but falling 3 tenths of a pound short weighing in 16.61 pounds. Jason and Scott are sponsored by Fairgrove Trucking and Mercury.

Finishing in a close third today was the team of Lawson Hibdon and Dirk Sluyter. Lawson and Dirk fished the lower end of the lake. After no results on the A-rig early, the team noticed the shad were hanging on the bottom and they adjusted switching over to a “Dirk’s jig”. The team grinded their way to a 5 fish limit weighing 16.36 pounds.

Today was a tough day for the team of Roger and Chase Fitzpatrick. The team started off slow and with no keepers at noon Chase had to leave Roger for a School function. Roger managed just 2 keepers on the day weighing 4.27 pounds. However Roger was the highest finishing Skeeter Boat owner and left Alhonna Resort with an extra $500 in his pocket!

Our next BassingBob.com tournament is this Sunday March 17 St. Patrick’s Day 7am take off Alhonna Resort (573)365-2634
