The 2024 winter division at Lake of the Ozarks seems to have flown by! Weather and lake levels proved to be dynamic, typical of a winter division. However, all events made it out of the gate as planned with no delays or postponements. The season finale would see the same dynamics as the season, with highs early in the week near 80 with storms and lower temperatures leading up to tournament day. A cold start steadily transitioned to a decent day to fish. 4-5” of rain muddied up the creeks. The numbers backed up the tough conditions, as only 8 limits were brought in by the 35 teams that gathered at Alhonna Resort. Still, given the skill of the LoZ anglers, dock talk at Alhonna Resort suggested it would take a solid limit for a team to find their names at the top of the Window World Leaderboard while garnering valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held this fall.
Mark Wilson and Adam Boehle ended the season with a victory. Their five fish limit locked the scales at an astonishing 19.23 pounds. Mark and Adam explained their Window World Leaderboard approach was throwing A-rigs on a variety of banks. Boating 10 keepers for the day, they noted the bite improved later in the day.
Second place honors went to Tony Torretta and Paul Buescher. Their best five bass weighed in at a stout 17.01 pounds. With the water warming just a bit, they chose to lean on the jerkbait to catch their fish. Quality bites were tough to come by, but they worked through 8 keepers to get to their final weight with most of their bites coming early. However, two late culls boosted them to the second place spot.
Cole McFarland and Ryan Jordan topped off their fantastic season with a third place finish. They worked A-rigs to catch their fish, boating 6 keepers for the day. They noted an early flurry with a mid-day lull before seeing the bite pick back up later in the day. Their five fish limit tallied 14.47 pounds and was more than enough to give them the Ozarks Division Points Championship for 2024.
NAPA Big bass honors went to the team of Mike Thomas and Jeff Lane. They padded their Lucas Oil ”first out of the money” prize pack with the Napa Big Bass award. Their hawg pushed the scales to 6.60 pounds after biting a jig worked in 10’ of water.
Mark Thompson and Mark Thompson II secured the Top Skeeter honors as they put 8.41 pounds of fish in the livewells of Mark’s 2023 ZXR20 Skeeter boat.
Special thanks to Window World, Napa, Skeeter, and the crew at Alhonna Resort for a fantastic winter division!
