Spring is here! With the dogwoods blooming and farmers wheat fields growing lush and green, Ozarks anglers have the confidence bass will be moving shallow. As tradition holds, 39 teams found that to be true with 27 limits and over half of the field weighing in over 14 lbs. With plenty of experience cashing Joe Bass Team Trail checks, the team of Kelly Jones and Roger Satterfield took top honors with 5 fish weighing 19.66 lbs. They reported staying shallow and relying on crankbaits and jigs in stained water in upper tributaries.
Coming in second place with 18.67 lbs. was the team of Kevin Jackson and Patrick Bremer. They reported staying closer to takeoff in the mid-lake area and using a-rigs and stickbaits to cull through several keepers on flat banks.
Taking over third place was the team of Ronnie Lawson and Brian Mackesty with 18.55 lbs., including Ozark Chevrolet Big Bass award. The 6.46 lbs. lunker was intrigued by an a-rig on the lower end of the lake approximately mid-day in 15′ of water.
Kelly Jones received top Skeeter award for fishing from his 2019 Skeeter.
Joe Bass Team Trail is excited to bring back the Antique Division on Wednesdays to give some of the anglers another opportunity to fish and get away from the weekend crowds. Many thanks goes out to this year’s division sponsors Kavan Maybee Insurance and Mike Smith Electric. Also want to thank all of our anglers for fishing and supporting Joe Bass Team Trail, your pathway to the Bassmasters Classic.
Our next event will be 4-14-21. Takeoff will be 6:30 a.m.
