04/01/23 Table Rock

Once again, the weather provided a roller coaster leading up to tournament day as a warming trend brought about extremely high winds on Friday followed by clearing skies, cooler temperatures and windy conditions on derby day. Coupled with a lake that had risen five feet but was being drawn down and the annual spring migration to the shallows, the angers were dealt a scattered hand when launching from Ahoy’s with hopes of a strong event and valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held Stockton Lake next fall.

Justin Garner and Jacob Wade took top honors with a staggering 21.23-pound bag. Included in their stringer was the second big bass of the event, a toad 6.20 largemouth. Justin and Jacob shared their Chompers Key to Success revolved around slinging a Rock Crawler while covering as much water as possible. They guessed they boated around twenty keepers on an all-day bite.

Landon Edwards and Cody Ellison were right behind the leaders with a super strong 20.06 limit. The NAPA Big Bass of the event proved to their anchor fish, as they boated a huge 7.14 pound largemouth. They also focused on the Crawler bite and figured they boated 20 keepers as well. They also noted that while they fished a ton of spots, they centered on steeper 45-degree banks to get their bites.

Jay and Clay Henderson followed up their win in the first event with a third-place finish. They brought a five fish limit weighing 19.63 pounds to the scales. They leaned on a jerk bait bite and explained it was critical they worked their lures in areas with both wind and shad.

Jake Smith and Neil Booher added to their 5th place earnings by taking Top Skeeter honors for the event. They fished crankbaits and A-Rigs on an early bite as they fished from their 2020 FXR21 Skeeter.

Special thanks to Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC in West Plains for sponsoring the live release boat.

The third event of the Table Rock Division will be May 6 with a 6:00 takeoff from Ahoy’s. Be prepared as there’s a big youth event out of Indian Point as well as a BFL out of Port of Kimberling.

Plan ahead as ramps may be busy and its to our benefit to take off on time.
