Spring weather is notoriously erratic, and the week leading up to the Stockton Division opener was no exception with freezing nightly temperatures, rain, and a post front sunny windy day for the tournament. Nonetheless, 65 teams convened at Orleans Trail Marina & Resort in search of daily bragging rights and valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held Stockton Lake next fall.
Coming out on top of the season opener was the team of Brent and Andy Greek. Their bag pushed the scales to a best-of-event 18.91 pounds. Their limit was anchored by the Ozark Chevrolet Big Bass of the tournament, a 7.05 giant. Brent and Andy shared their Albers Marine, Inc Key to Success involved working spinnerbaits shallow. They worked through 10 keepers throughout the day, finding fish scattered on windy banks.
Local sticks Scott Clift and Ashley Medley took the runner-up position. They leaned on their favorite jerkbaits to boat 18.24 pounds. Finding the fishing tough, they noted covering water to pickoff isolated fish along windy banks, boating 8 keepers during the day.
Sam Morton and Adam Schwinn rounded out the top three. Their best five from the 9 keepers they bagged weighed a solid 16.92 pounds. The also noted covering a lot of water with a jerkbait, finding their fish along 45 degree banks.
Keith Hurd and Jeff Nelson padded their 6th place winnings with Top Skeeter honors as they fished from Keith’s 2021 ZXR Skeeter.

The next Joe Bass Stockton derby will be Sunday May 1 with a 6:00 am takeoff from Orleans Trails. Take note of the monthly takeoff time of 6:00 am and make sure you’re checked in early to ensure a timely takeoff.
