04/07/24 Stockton

The 2024 Stockton division kicked off with the forecasted high winds commanding top attention from the dock talk crowd.  It’s no secret Stockton can be a beast during windy conditions, but the 35 that gathered at Orleans Trail Resort & Marina adapted to the conditions well as 28 limits were brought to the scales.  With kicker fish being hard to come by, it took a limit north of 13 pounds for a team to find their names at the top of the Window World Leaderboard.  Others chose to hunker down with the intent of garnering valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held next fall on Table Rock Lake.

Chris Macy and Tim Lawyer started the season in perfect form as they took first place.  Their five fish limit locked the scales at 13.98 pounds.  Chris explained their Albers Marine, Inc. approach involved working jigs to catch their fish.  He noted they went through 25 keepers to get to their winning weight.  He also said they caught fish early, followed by a mid-day lull with the bite picking back up later in the day while fishing a variety of banks.

Dusty Richardson and Robert Shackleford narrowly missed a win as their best five bass weighed in at 13.93 pounds.  Although there was talk of jerkbaits, Damiki rigs and drop shots, the duo fessed up that they relied on their favorite jig to boat their fish.  They found the bite better early in the day, including the NAPA big bass of the day, a bulky 5.01 pound largemouth.

Chris and Charley Thomas rounded out the top three with a 13.76 limit.  Chris shared they leaned on a  jerkbait for an all-day bite.  They boated over 20 keepers for the day, with their first limit in the livewell by 9:00 am.  They worked points where the wind was manageable to catch their fish.

Dan Cox and Tim Kastning collected some extra money as they secured the Top Skeeter honors with a 7th place weight of 13.17 pounds of bass, anchored by the second big bass of the day with a 4.23 pound kicker.  They worked Chompers skirt jigs on shallow stumps from Dan’s 2002 SX190 Skeeter boat.

Special thanks to Albers Marine, Inc., Napa, Orleans Trail Resort and Marina and Skeeter for a fantastic kickoff to the division!

The next Stockton division tournament will launch from Orleans Trail May 5th at 6:00 am.

Pay special attention to the top 3 places in the points race. Beginning this season all 3 will be eligible for the Tournament of Champions held in conjunction with the Invitational.
