04/12/23 Antique

Table Rock anglers were finally given a string of consistent warm days prior to an event, a change from the previous cycles of cold fronts, storms and high winds prior to and including tournament day.  The consistent conditions manifested in great fishing conditions as 53 teams brought over 500 pounds of bass to the scales, over a 10 pound per team average!  Regardless of the size, it’s not too early to be thinking ahead, solidifying the concept that every fish counts towards qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held Stockton Lake next fall.

Aaron Stanphill and Jeff Cook came out on top with a stout 21.65 pound stringer.  Their bag was anchored by the NAPA Big Bass of the event.  Their lunker pushed the scales to 6.17 pounds.  Aaron and Jeff shared their  Maybee Insurance/Smith Electric Key to Success centered fishing beds with jigs down-lake.  The duo boated 10 keepers for the day, with most of their weigh-in weight coming mid-day as the bigger fished joined males on the beds.

Jay Oliver and Aaron Hodge took second place honors.  Their 19.27 pound stringer came on spinnerbaits and jigs.  Jay and Aaron boated 15-20 keepers on an all-day bite.

Jim Dopp and Harlin Husky rounded out the top three with a strong 17.97 limit.  They slow-worked Senkos and Zoom Z-Craws an a variety of shallow banks.  They also had a good day numbers wise, boating around a dozen keepers throughout the day.

Proving it pays to run a Skeeter, Jacob Wade and Phil Collier added to their 5th place winnings by taking the Top Skeeter honors for the event.  They put 16.48 pounds in the livewell of their 2001 ZX225 by slowly working a floating twitch worm over beds.

Special thanks to Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC in West Plains for sponsoring the live release boat.

The third event of the Antique Division will be May 10 with a 6:00 takeoff from Ahoy’s.
