04/27/24 Pomme

The 2024 Pomme de Terre division kicked off under the threat of severe weather and water that was already on a fast rise.  The inrush washed out the creeks but flooded the bushes on the lower lake, forcing teams to abandon one pattern for another.  None the less, 52 teams blasted off with hopes of a great day and the chance to find their names at the top of the Window World Leaderboard while accruing valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held next fall on Table Rock Lake.

Cody Campbell and Quentin Carr made the right adjustments as their five fish limit pushed the scales to a tournament winning 16.55 pounds.  Their TNT Quick Stop key to success mixed a “scoping” a Damiki-rigged minnow along with a flipping bite.  They added to their first place check by taking Top Skeeter honors as they used Cody’s Skeeter boat to win the event.

Will Pierce and Steve Allen secured second place to start the season.  They brought five fish to the weigh-in.  Their sack locked in at a stout 15.85 pounds.  Will and Pierce covered several locations while pitching creature baits into the newly flooded bushes.  They concentrated on both shallow bushes and a few on the edge of a the 10’ range.

Ryan Tucker and Ryan Heise rounded out the top three.  They focused on the bush bite to boat a 15.79 pound bag.  They found a Senko to be the bait of choice, making multiple casts to draw strikes.  Their better bushes were along the old bank line in 5’-8’.

Local legends Jerry Roark and Jamie Edge boated a Pomme de Terre monster that proved to be  the Napa big bass of the day.  The 8.29 giant hit a Chompers Boss Hawg early in the morning.

Timmy Newberry and Rusty Darnell were excited to take the Pomme de Rita’s “First out of the Money” award with their 12.21 pound showing for the day.

Special thanks to Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC for sponsoring the release boat!

The next Pomme de Terre tournament will launch at 6:00 Saturday May 18.

Pay special attention to the top 3 places in the points race. Beginning this season all 3 will be eligible for the Tournament of Champions held in conjunction with the Invitational.
