The 2024 Truman division kicked off after a few days of torrential rains and a night punctuated with tornado warnings. Thankfully, the weather for tournament day consisted of only a light rain and moderate wind. However, with the lake rising by the minute and turning muddy in many of the creeks and coves, anglers had to scramble in their efforts to find their names at the top of the Window World Leaderboard. 54 teams weighed 24 limits, leaving the remainder of the field to embrace “the every fish counts” motto as it relates to qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held next fall on Table Rock Lake.
Bryce Reider and Mike Edrington proved their mettle as current division points champions by adjusting to the ever-changing conditions to take first place. The duo shared their Hobbytime Motorsports key to success was flipping creature baits to boat 19.10 pounds of Truman bass. Mike noted that although they ended up with nearly 20 keepers for the day, they had only 1 keeper in the livewell at 10:00 am. They stayed on the move and found a stretch of clearer water where they could get the job done.
Brad Territo and Logan Carter dropped 17.38 pounds on the scale to secure second place. Logan said they flipped black and blue Omega jigs to catch their fish. Boating 9 keepers on the day, Logan noted it was a last minute kicker that allowed them to make a substantial cull to get to their final weight.
David McCormick fished solo to round out the top three. David shared that he was targeting post spawn fish with a jig. He found fish that had pulled out to secondary points. Working through 12 keepers on an all day bite, Dave’s final weight locked in at 16.67 pounds.
Bryan and Darren Baker wrangled the Napa big bass of the day. Their 6.12 lunker fell to a spinnerbait. Bryan lamented that only a few casts after boating the big fish, the spinnerbait broke. I’m sure they can use their Napa big bass money in addition to their fifth place finish to replace the bait!
Truman veterans Rich Campbell and Travis Stevens added to their 4 place check by taking the Top Skeeter honors. They put a 15.99 pound limit in Rich’s Skeeter bass boat by flipping tubes, brush hogs, and Senkos along the old bank line.
Special thanks to Hobbytime Motorsports, Lakes Inn, Truman Lake Fishing Intel, Napa, Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC, and Skeeter for a fantastic kickoff to the division!
The next Truman will launch at 6:00 am Sunday May 19.
Pay special attention to the top 3 places in the points race. Beginning this season all 3 will be eligible for the Tournament of Champions held in conjunction with the Invitational.
