05/01/22 Stockton

Seems like we can’t shake the volatile spring weather this season!  Just as the lake was beginning to be set for a strong run of bass to the banks, torrential rains brought a huge influx of water into the rivers and creeks, turning a light stain to pure mud.  A stiff wind contributed to either dispersing the mud or pushing it back into the creeks depending on how the water lays related to the wind.  The change in conditions led to tough fishing, as 70 teams brought only 24 limits to the scales.  Nonetheless, everyone taking off from Orleans Trail Resort & Marina worked hard in search of daily bragging rights and valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held Stockton Lake next fall.

Backing up their win in the season opener, Brent and Andy Greek made it two in a row as they brought the heaviest bag of the event, 17.13 pounds, to the weigh-in scales.  Brent and Andy shared their Albers Marine, Inc. Key to Success involved flipping plastics to shallow bushes.  They noted catching plenty of fish but could only upgrade twice throughout the day.

The Championship Marine Repair team of Tom and Dillon Statler had a solid day, taking second place with a 16.70 pound bag.  They reported flipping shallow bushes up-lake, focusing on the 2’-3’ range.  They utilized various plastics for the bait of choice to catch 10-12 keepers for the day.

Luke Routh and Tyler Weaver rounded out the top three.  They reported using PB&J Motion Fishing jigs to boat 15.88 pounds.  They found the fishing to their liking as they also boated 10-12 keepers on an all day bite.

Mike Hagensicker and Dillion Brock left before an interview could be conducted, but they earned some take home money as they took Top Skeeter honors by putting their 11.08 pound limit into Mike’s Skeeter.

The Ozark Chevrolet Big Bass of the derby was caught by Todd Choate and Kent Whitaker.  The 5.56 pound kicker anchored their 8th place bag.  Todd noted the fish came on a Jewel football jig,

Special thanks to Albers Marine, Inc for their support of the division.  Catch Em All Bait & Tackle is onboard with the Joe Bass Save A Receipt program.  An added bonus is they’ve offered a 10% discount for Joe Bass anglers presenting a Table Rock, Antique & Stockton weigh-in slip to the Cape Fair tackle shop.  Be sure and keep your receipts for a chance at $1000 at the Joe Bass Invitational this fall at Stockton.

The third Joe Bass Stockton derby will be Sunday June 5th with a 6:00 am takeoff from Orleans Trails.  Take note of the monthly takeoff time of 6:00 a.m and make sure you’re checked in early to ensure a timely takeoff.
