05/20/23 Pomme

Although the event started with cool temperatures at take off, the remainder of the day was beautiful, albeit not necessarily the best type of day to trigger the big fish to bite.  Case in point, 48 teams weighed just over 400 pounds of Pomme de Terre bass with the average total weight just a tick over 8.5 pounds.  However, every fish counts towards qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held at Stockton Lake next fall.

The long-time team of Greg Askew and Terry Case topped the field with a solid 16.45 pound limit.  Their bag included the second place big bass of the day, a toad 5.49 pounder.  Greg and Terry shared their  TNT Quick Shop Key to Success centered on working jigs and small worms in the mouths of several creeks.  They boated eight keepers throughout the day to amass their winning weight.

Another veteran team, Jerry Roark and Jamie Edge, took second place accolades.  Their 14.31 pound stringer fell to a jig worked through the shallow bushes.  Jerry and Jamie added they caught a lot of fish throughout the day, working through fifteen keepers.

David and Ryan Fritz rounded out the top three.  The put 14.28 pounds on the scales after catching their fish on a mix of jigs, worms, and Senkos.  The maximized their fishing time by staying close to The Harbor.  They also added to their paycheck as their bag was anchored by the NAPA Big Bass of the event.  Their lunker pushed the scales to 7.01 pound toad that bit a Senko.

Proving it pays to run a Skeeter, Jacob and Nathan Fish flipped bushes to catch over three limits of bass.  More importantly, they did it from their Skeeter boat, earning them Top Skeeter honors for the event.  They put 11.43 pounds in the livewell of their 2007 ZX225.

Special thanks to Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC in West Plains for sponsoring the live release boat.

The second event of the Pomme de Terre Division will be June 24 with a 6:00 takeoff from The Harbor.  Please note; let’s avoid the hassles and make sure we pay our launch fees when using the facilities at The Harbor.
