Truman anglers were blessed with a great weather day with mild temperatures and light winds, a huge turnaround from the 30+ mph winds during the season opener. Conditions allowed everyone to move around as they worked to locate a kicker bite on a day dominated by numbers instead of quality. The statistics back that theory, as 91 teams brought over 1000 pounds of bass to the scales for over an 11 pound per team average! Thankfully, the Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet/GMC/Buick Live Release boat was on hand to return the bass to the lake to be caught again. To ensure the integrity of the circuit, polygraphs were administered to the top finishers as well as a team chosen at random. As always, every fish counts towards qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held at Stockton Lake next fall.
Jordan Williams and Trevor Bartlett teamed up to take the win with a staggering 19.20 pound stringer. Jordan shared their Hobbytime Motorsports Key to Success centered working jigs through shallow stumps. Their locales consisted of a string of spawning coves where they found their fish still lingering towards the back of the pockets where they worked through three limits of keepers to get to their winning weight.
John Bennett and Darrell Reach nearly pulled off another win, as their 18.25 limit landed them in second place. Their day didn’t produce the numbers others reported, but quality is what matters at the weigh-in. Darrell noted they fished shallow laydowns with a mix of spinnerbaits, squarebills and lizard to boat 7-8 keepers throughout the day.
Mike Edrington fished with Chris Savoie to round out the top three. They brought a 17.62 limit to the scales. Mike said they stayed shallow all day, flipping shallow cover on a variety of banks to catch their fish.
Aaron Foglesong and Jeff Wilkins padded their 7th place finish with the NAPA Big Bass of the event. Their lunker pushed the scales to 6.46 pounds.
Doug Long and Marty Watson also added to their winnings as they took Top Skeeter honors in addition to a 5th place overall finish. Doug noted they fished brush hogs in 8-10 of water to put bass in their 2021 ZXR21.
Special thanks to Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC in West Plains for sponsoring the live release boat.
Tim Williams Lie Detection Services performed polygraph tests.
The third event of the Truman Division will be June 25 with a 6:00 takeoff from Shawnee Bend. Be sure and show up early to ensure you have plenty of time to check in and launch prior to take-off.
Host lodging for Joe Bass Team Trail on Truman lake is Rivers End Motel & RV Park. Newley remodeled.
