06/02/24 Stockton

39 teams launched from Orleans Trail Resort & Marina with the hopes of a strong day that would find them atop the Window World Leaderboard.  Dock talk centered on a stingy bite with a forecasted drop in the release rates combining with a fresh influx of water in the upper creeks wreaking havoc on what had been fairly stable conditions.  The statistics prove that out as only 15 limits were weighed and teams averaged just over 5 pounds per boat.  However, every fish counts for valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held next fall on Table Rock Lake.

Local sticks Chris Macy and Tim Lawyer came out on top on a tough day.  Their 15.21 limit was anchored by the NAPA  big bass of the day, a kicker 5.72 pound lunker.  Their Albers Marine, Inc. approach centered on soaking a brown jig in the bushes to coax 6 keeper bites.  The big fish, which came at 1:00pm, gave them a huge upgrade towards their final weight.

Also relying on a big bite to bump up their weight, Keith Hurd and Jeff Nelson welcomed their 5.66 pound second place big bass to weigh a total of 12.55 pounds and secure a second place finish.  They also worked jigs all day, boating 7 keepers.  The worked deeper than others, focusing on mainlake and deeper secondary points on a lake-wide milk run.  They added to their take home money as they also took the Top Skeeter honors as they fished from their 2021 ZXR20.

Hayden and Denny Carver rounded out the top three.  Their five fish limit locked on at 12.31 pounds.  Sticking with the jig theme, Team Carver flipped bushes to boat 8 keepers throughout the day.  Their day brightened as they boated their best fish after 2:00pm which provided enough of a boost to give them a podium finish.

Special thanks to Albers Marine, Inc., NAPA , Orleans Trail Resort and Marina,  Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC and Skeeter Boats for another fantastic tournament.

The next Stockton division tournament will launch from Orleans Trail August 4nd at 6:00 am.

Pay special attention to the top 3 places in the points race. Beginning this season all 3 will be eligible for the Tournament of Champions held in conjunction with the Invitational.
