06/04/23 Stockton

Clear skies, warm temperatures and little to no wind greeted the 56 teams that launched from Orleans Trail Marina. Final stats showed the fishing to be good from a numbers standpoint with 36 limits brought to the scales, but the big fish were tough to come by as the average weight for each fish barely cracked the two pound mark. However, every fish counts for valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held at Stockton Lake next fall.

Dalton Saxon and Sean Brashears topped the field with a total weight of 16.80 pounds. They reported catching a ton of keepers, working through 3-4 limits to get to their final tally. Their Albers Marine, Inc. Key to Success started with a spinnerbait early followed by dragging a variety of plastics throughout the day. Included in their stringer was the NAPA Big Bass of the day, a stout 5.96 pounder that fell to the dragging technique on one of the dozens of points they hopped during the day.

Seth Glynn and KJ Hughes wrangled runner-up honors with a 15.61 pound limit. They reported working Hogzilla creature baits on deep brushpiles. The duo capitalized on the limited number of bites they got, as they noted they didn’t catch many but they obviously caught the right ones!

Rick Bowman and Jeff Moore finished with a third place standing. Their 14.50 pound bag gave them a podium finish on a day where they didn’t get many bites. The five fish they weighed were the five keepers they boated for the day with the fish coming on jigs and worms.

Jason Hahn and Joshua Mills nabbed Top Skeeter honors which they added to their 5th place overall finish. They worked brush hogs on bluff end points to put 12.36 pounds into their 2011 ZXZ190 Skeeter.

Special thanks to Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC in West Plains for sponsoring the live release boat.

The fourth event of the Stockton Division will be August 6th with a 6:00 takeoff from Orleans Trail. Plan ahead as ramps may be busy and it’s to our benefit to take off on time.
