06/24/23 Pomme

Summertime at Pomme de Terre means bass transitioning to the deep brushpiles or burying into cover up the rivers.  It also means pontoon boats, skiers/tubers, wake boats, and jet skis.  Throw in a brisk wind and anglers faced bumpy conditions as they battled for a strong finish in the third event of the Pomme de Terre division.  As always, consistency is vital as every fish counts towards qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held at Stockton Lake next fall.  Special recognition is due all the teams as 100% of the 165 bass weighed were returned to the lake via the Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC release boat, proving the Pomme anglers are just as adept at fish care as they are in catching bass.

Taking top honors was the team of David and Sean Mulkey.  They brought a staggering 20.83 pound limit to the scales on a day when it was tough to get a break-through bite.  Team Mulkey made the most of the six keepers they boated, with their  TNT Quick Shop Key to Success centered on mixing a HyperShad swimbait with a Chompers creature bait.  They fished a variety of locales both shallow and deep to take the win.

The veteran team of Scott and Brandon Hill secured a second place finish on a tough day.  Similar to the winners, they mixed a flipping bite with a swimbait.  Their 15.83 pound limit came from both shallow and deep spots, boating 15 keepers on an all-day bite.

Dan Cox and Tim Kastning are no strangers to the bass wars and the team used years of experience on Pomme to bring a third place bag weighing 15.20 to weigh-in.  They worked Dan’s favorite plastic worm shallow to boat 8 keepers.  They bolstered their third place earnings by taking Top Skeeter honors for the event as they fished from Dan’s 2002 ZX190 Skeeter.

Fishing with his son Kane, Matt Gunter anchored a sixth place weight of 13.58 with the NAPA Big Bass of the event.  Their lunker pushed the scales to 6.76 pounds after it bit a flutter spoon worked over a brushpile.

The fourth event of the Pomme de Terre Division will be July 22 with a 6:00 takeoff from The Harbor.  Please note; let’s avoid the hassles and make sure we pay our launch fees when using the facilities at The Harbor.
