06/30/24 Mark Twain

34 Teams found their way to Robert E. Allen ramp Sunday, for tournament number 3 of the Mark Twain division, sponsored by 154 Marine. The lake has been fish pretty strong for the past month, and the anglers new it would take 20+ pounds to finish on top.

Taking the Window World Leader Board top spot Sunday was the team of Steve Weber and Sam Phillips. The Joe Bass staff team started their day in the mid-lake area fishing Senko style worms and Brushogs on main lake points. Having some success, but knowing the needed better-quality fish, the team moved to the Lick Creek arm of the lake, fishing in the 4 to 10 foot range, the team found what they were looking for, and then some! Steve and Sam dropped a whopping 25.06 pounds of Mark Twain Lake Bass on the scales to claim the top spot. Included in their bag was the NAPA Big Bass of the day weighing 6.26 pounds, that Sam caught on one of their last casts of the day. Steve also was the highest finishing Skeeter owner fishing out of his 2011 ZX225.

Taking the runner up position was the team of Wade Walling and Matt Weigel. Wade and Matt found quality fish in practice under schools of shad off steep main lake points in the mid-lake area. However, tournament morning the fish had left the shad balls and moved tighter to the bank on sharper drops in about 8 feet of water. The team fished jigs out to the drop and found that when the jig lost contact with the bottom you were out of the strike zone. Wade and Matt rotated through a couple spots through the day, bringing 21.23 pounds to the scales.

Finishing in third place was the team of Keith Williams and alternate John Trasher. Keith and John fished Big worms and jigs from the dam to mid-lake on points, standing timber and brush piles in 6 to 14 foot range.

Our next Mark Twain Lake Joe Bass tournament, sponsored by 154 Marine will be July, 14th 6am take-off Robert E. Allen ramp.
