Milk run works for Kunkle and Williams!
Perotti and Kunkel make it close!
Team Kampschroeder in the check line again in third!
Warm stable weather the previous week raised the water temperatures approximately 10 to 12° at Mark Twain lake, putting most of the bass in post spawn and early summer fishing patterns. Pre-tournament talk reported that fish are being caught from halfway back in the coves to Main lake points, as a lot of current was being pulled through the lake positioning the fish in fairly predictable spots.
Taking the top spot today was the team of Charlie Kunkle and Keith Williams. Charlie reported having a very tough pre-practice but thought that the Fish were close to setting up into their summer patterns. The team formulated a milk run that focused on secondary and main lake channel swings and points with current to catch their winning fish. Their baits of choice were a jig and large plastic worm. The teams 5 fish limit came in at 18.17 pounds. The 154 Marine key to success was knowing lake history at that water level and knowing where the fish set up after spawning.
Missing the top spot today by only .02 pounds was the team of John Perotti and Corey Kunkel. On Corey’s 3rd cast with an ” Old School” Jitterbug. Corey landed the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass weighing 6.39 pounds. Off to a fast start, John and Corey fished jigs and brush hogs on secondary points to bring in a 5 fish limit weighing 18.15 pounds.
Taking the third spot today was the team of David and Dustin Kampschroeder. At weigh-in the team reported throwing the tacklebox at them catching keepers on top water spinner baits plastics and jigs fishing the lower third of the lake.
31 teams, 25 limits.
Our next 154 Marine, Mark Twain Division tournament will be June 25 6:00 take off Robert Allen ramp.
