06/25/17 Twain

Gorgeous weather conditions greeted the 27 teams competing for the top spot in the June 25, Joe Bass Team Trail, Mark Twain lake division, sponsored by 154 Marine. Pre-tournament talk was all about the big sacks caught the day before in the 154 Marine Customer appreciation tournament, 22.32 pounds taking the top spot! Conditions on Sunday were similar to the day before with the only difference being the lake was close to a foot lower than the day before as moderate generation from Clarence cannon dam was dropping the lake.

Taking the top spot today was the team of Jim Coyner and Keith Ostrander. Employing their run and gun style to the lake Jim and Keith hit over 25 spots throughout the day looking for active fish. The team focused on main lake points and structure in less than 12 feet of water. Their baits of choice were big worms and a jig. Catching several keepers on the day, Jim and Keith found the right 5 bites weighing in at 20.72 pounds. The 154 Marine key to success was Jim’s new Minkota Ultrex trolling motor with Spotlock. Jim commented that he could go to a spot, hit the spotlock and never had to worry about boat position making it easier to focus on the cast and retrieve. Included in their bag was the 2nd big bass of the day weighing 5.62 pounds! Jim also was the highest finishing Skeeter owner fishing out of his 2007 21i class Jim and Keith are sponsored by 154 Marine and Bullseye bait and tackle

Taking the second spot today was a team of Keith Hendrix and Greg Zumwalt. Before take off, Keith commented that a 5 fish limit was no problem for them to catch but it had been a couple weeks since they had any decent fish. Fishing in the lower third of the lake, Keith and Greg pitched Senkos and creature baits along with a jig to visible targets. Keith and Greg also caught multiple keepers on an all day bite with their best five fish weighing 17.45 pounds. Keith and Greg are sponsored by 154 Marine, Gene Larew, Hpw Lures, JC Auto and Truck, Crop Rotation Service, and Dyna Gro Seed.

Taking the third spot today with a five fish limit weighing 17.39 pounds was the team of Don and Gary McFetridge. Don and Gary fished Brush hogs and jigs around the Indian creek area focusing on points and channel swings.

Catching the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass was the 5th place team of Chris and Leisa Janda. Chris said the fish weighing 5.63 pounds was fooled by a brush hog on a point about mid day. Chris and Leisa are sponsored by County Inn Resort.

Our next Mark Twain Division tournament will be July 23 Robert Allen ramp 6:00 take off.
