Twain Still Tough
25 teams tried to solve the puzzle of finding 5 keeper bites at Mark Twain Lake Sunday. However only one team managed a 5 fish limit and only twelve teams managed to weigh any fish.
Taking the top spot today was the team of Jim Coyner and Keith Ostrander. The Bullseye Bait and Tackle, 154 Marine sponsored team had a plan to hit as many summer offshore spots as possible looking for active fish. Using a one two punch approach with a jig and soft plastics Jim and Keith fished brush piles, Points, and channel drops in the lower end of the lake. Success came early as the team had their weigh in weight by 9:30 with their total weight pushing the scales down to a net 13.84 pounds. Jim also was the Top Finishing Skeeter owner fishing out of his 2007 21 I Class.
Taking the Second place spot Sunday was the team of Charlie Kunkle and Keith Williams Like the first place team, Charlie and Keith focused on Brush Piles and Structure in the lower end of the lake. Charlie and Keith also fished primarily jigs and soft plastics but also mentioned a top water bait fooled the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass weighing 3.92 pounds. Charlie and Keith were only able to bring 4 fish to the scales, but 12.37 pounds was good enough for the runner up position. Charlie and Keith are sponsored by 154 Marine.
Finding themselves in third today was the team of Lonnie Franklin and Pat Estes. The Mexico Missouri Team Junk fished their way to 3rd. They fished Deep, Shallow, Points, Flats, Humps, Bluffs, from take off to weigh in they kept their heads down and their baits wet. Lonnie and Pat only managed 3 keeper bites weighing 6.74 pounds but it was 3/4 of a pound better than the 4th place team.
Our next Mark Twain Lake Tournament sponsored by 154 Marine is August 19 6am take off Robert Allen Ramp.
