Fishing is as HOT as the Weather at Mark Twain Lake!
Well things started off nice for the 23 teams that assembled at Robert Allen Ramp for tournament number 5 at Mark Twain Lake, as overnight rains cooled the temps down into the low 70’s to start the morning. Much improved weather over the Sweltering mid 90’s the area had most of the week.
Finishing in first place today and over coming a slow start to the season was the reining division champions Jim Coyner and Keith Ostrander. Jim and Keith fished their normal “Run and Gun” style of fishing hitting as many as 40 spots on the day. The team employed a bottom baits only strategy, fishing worms and jigs on main lake points and channel swing banks with current never fishing more than 10 feet deep. The teams best 5 weighed in at an impressive 19.47 pounds. Jimmy also won the Skeeter owner’s incentive fishing out of his 2007 I Class. Jim and Keith are sponsored by 154 Marine and Bullseye Bait and Tackle.
Taking the runner-up position today was the team of Kenny Grothoff and Donnie Palmatory. Kenny and Donnie’s started off with a BANG as their first bite of the day smashing a buzzbait was the Ozark Chevrotet Big Joe Bass of the tournament weighing 7.00 pounds! Off to a great start the team focused on one channel swing bank with current working buzzbaits around laydowns and had all 18.46 pounds of bass before 8am. Kenny and Donnie are Sponsored by Eberlin boats.
Taking the third spot today was the Father and Son team of David and Dustin Kampschroeder. David and Dustin fished Creature baits around flooded bushes and laydowns in the mid-lake area, bringing 16.97 pounds of bass to the scales.
Our final Mark Twain Lake tournament of the 2019 season sponsored by 154 Marine, is August 18, 6am take-off Robert Allen Ramp. This will be an open NO Membership needed Tournament!
