08/04/24 Stockton

33 teams launched from Orleans Trail Resort & Marina for the penultimate derby of the Stockton Division.  Temperatures were scalding hot, yet teams still held on to hopes of a strong day that would find them atop the Window World Leaderboard.   With anglers in a hurry to get to the air conditioner,  details were a little sparce, but suffice it to see the weather took a toll on the fishing as all spoke of tough fishing conditions.  Still, every fish counts for valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held next fall on Table Rock Lake.

Chris Macy and Tim Lawyer made it a back-to-back event, claiming victory just as they did last month.   Their Albers Marine, Inc. approach centered on soaking a brown jig just as they did in the prior event.  With water levels down, they transitioned their shallow bush bite to a deeper approach with their bites coming in the 15’ depth range.  Their bag weighed 13.29 pounds.

Matthew Rogers fished with Connor Cunningham to secure a second place finish on a tough day.  They noted they caught their five keepers on a variety of baits; 2 on a spook, 1 on a Deps BuzzJet, and 2 on a jig.   It took them all day but they put a solid 13.23 pounds in the boat, narrowly missing the win.

David Hughes and Sarah Maxwell were right behind the leaders with a 13.13 pound stringer.  They stayed shallow all day, focusing on spots in 3’-4’ of water.  Their bait of choice was a small worm dipped with an orange tail to mimic the crawdads in the rocks they were fishing.

Keith Hurd and Jeff Nelson boated 11.93 pounds, enough to take Top Skeeter honors.  They put their fish in Keith’s 2021 ZXR20 Skeeter bass boat.

Gage and Mike Gross caught the NAPA  big bass of the event.  Their 5.27 giant hit a 10” Bojangles Baits worm.

The final Stockton division tournament will launch from Orleans Trail September 8th at 7:00 am.

Pay special attention to the top 3 places in the points race. Beginning this season all 3 will be eligible for the Tournament of Champions held in conjunction with the Invitational.
