08/06/23 Mark Twain

31 teams showed up for the Mark Twain division finale for 2023.

Taking the top spot today was  154 Marine sponsored team of Charlie Kunkle and Keith Williams. Keith and Charlie fished the mid-lake to lower end focusing on main lake points and bluff ends with brush piles. The team’s primary presentation of choice was a Carolina rigged Brushog. Keith said it was a matter of timming when it came to getting bites, as they could see fish with their forward facing sonar on every spot they fished. However they would not always fire, but if you could get one to bite it normally meant you would get more than 1 bite on that pile. The teams 5 fish limit came in at 17.72 pounds putting them at the top of the Window World Leader Board. The team also took top Skeeter money fishing out of Keiths 2016 FX20.

With the “W”, Charlie and Keith made it back to back Division Points Champions. Charlie and Keith will be boat #1 for the 2024 season and earned paid entry into the Team Invitational October 13-15 at Stockton Lake. PLUS paid entry into the Tournament of Champions where they could win their 2024 entries! TOC ran inconjuction with Invitational.

Finishing in the runner-up position was the team of Travis Wilson and Caleb Shoemaker. This team fished very similar to the winners, as they also fished the Carolina rig, with creature baits and worms. They also fished the lower end of Mark Twain focusing on main lake structure. Travis and Caleb’s 5 fish limit came in at 14.25 pounds. Included in their bag was the NAPA Auto Parts Big Bass weighing 4.49 pounds.

The 3rd place finish belongs to Dennis and Scott McFetridge. Dennis and Scott had a slow start to the day fishing main lake structure and only had 1 keeper at 12:30. It was when the wind picked up and some cloud cover moved in the team went to work, finding success with a big worm deep diving crankbait and a Carolina rigged Brushog. Scott said their fish came from depths of 5 to 18 feet of water. Dennis and Scott’s 5 fish limit weighed in at 13.97 pounds.

31 teams, 4 limits, 44 fish weighed, 41 fish released. (93%)

Tentative Schedule for the 2024 Mark Twain division is as follows;

May 5, June 2, June 30, July 14, August 11.
