08/06/23 Stockton

August weather is as unpredictable as the fishing in Missouri. This day started with sprinkles, then the sun and wind moved in. The fishing according to the anglers were scattered and tough to come by. The Joe Bass anglers however found the combinations to bring in some good sacks. With water temps in the 80’s and the water being pulled anglers found the fish in brush piles throwing jigs and soft plastics. The depths varied but the pattern was true.

Robert Cowan, Aldrich, MO, had a partner that was unable to attend but was lucky enough to have a friend that is a good angler in his own right and no stranger to Stockton Lake, Dustin Kimrey, Willard, MO, in town to help him bring in the winning weight of 15.85lbs. The team is sponsored Don Howe Gravel and Dirt, McCallister Marine, Phoenix Boats and Mercury. Robert also had the NAPA BIG BASS of the day. The largemouth weighed 5.41lbs. Robert caught it in a brush pile in 10-15 ft. of water. Big worms were their key to success.

Justin Faucett, Webb City, MO and Eric Stephenson, Golden City, MO, were very close behind with 14.36lbs. The team used a combination of soft plastics in brush piles and topwater baits early.

Rick Bowman, Mound City, KS and Jeff Moore, Fair Play, MO used worms and jigs in brush piles to bring their 5 fish limit that weighed 14.18lbs. The key to their success was moving from pile to pile and depth changes.

Keith Hurd, Springfield, MO and Jeff Nelson, Morrisville, MO, 2020 Division Champions, had 13.37lbs to bring home the Top Skeeter of day. They were fishing out of Keith’s 2021 ZXR 20.

The next JOE BASS STOCKTON DIVISION brought to you by Albers Marine, Inc. is September 10, 2023 with a 7am takeoff out of Orleans Trail.
