August weather is as unpredictable as the fishing in Missouri. This day started with sprinkles, then the sun and wind then more showers. The fishing according to the anglers were scattered and tough to come by. The Joe Bass anglers however found the combinations to bring in some good sacks. With water temps in the 80’s and the water being pulled anglers found the fish in brush piles throwing jigs and soft plastics. The depths varied but the pattern was true.
Tim Lawyer, La Russell, MO, had an injured partner and was lucky enough to have his brother, Jeremy Lawyer, Sarcoxie, MO, in town to help him bring in the winning weight of 19.74lbs. The team is sponsored Ranger, Bass Pro, Russel Marine Products, Pro Guide Batteries, Mercury, Denali Rods, Bullet Weights, and Freedom Tackle.
Scott Tassi and Glen Harrison, Arma, KS, sponsored by Albers Marine, Inc., Nitro Boats, Mercury, Woo Tungsten, Lews, Denali Rods, and Lowrance, were very close behind with 19.68lbs. Scott also had the Ozark Chevrolet BIG BASS of the day. The giant largemouth weighed 8.16lbs. Scott caught it in a brush pile in 10 ft. of water.
Blake Edwards and Shane McGinnis, both of Springfield, MO used Bass Pro Enticer jigs in brush piles to bring their 5 fish limit that weighed 19.27lbs. The key to their success was moving from pile to pile and depth changes.
Keith Hurd, Springfield, MO and Jeff Nelson, Morrisville, MO, last years Division Champions, had 15.02lbs to bring home the Top Skeeter of day. They were fishing out of Keith’s 2021 ZXR 20.
