The Bite is Still Tough on the Pond!
30 teams gathered at Robert Allen ramp for the 2018 Mark Twain Lake Division finale to see who could solve the puzzle of putting 5 keeper bites into the boat. Also at steak was the division points championship, as several teams were within striking distance.
Taking the top spot today was the team of Jim Coyner and Keith Ostrander. Keith and Jimmy fished brush piles and channel drops in 12 to 18 feet of water from the dam area up to the mid-lake area. rotating though at least 15 spots looking for active fish. Baits of choice were a 1/2 oz. Bullseye jig and a big worm. At the end of the Jimmy and Keith dropped 17.73 pounds of bass on the scales for the WIN. The 154 Marine Keys to Success, for Jimmy and Keith it was their intimate knowledge of the areas fished and Jimmy’s Minkota Ultrex Trolling motor and Humminbird electronics, as many of their spots were offshore the team relied on thier electronics to find the spots and then Spot-lock kept them there Jimmy also was the highest finishing Skeeter owner fishing out of his 20 IClass.
Also With the win, Jimmy and Keith Win the Division Points Championship and will Have their entry fee paid by Joe Bass for the Invitational at Table Rock and will be boat #1 next year at Mark Twain.
Taking the second spot today was the team of Jason Huskey and Bryan Hulsey. The Karrenbrock Excavating sponsored team fished similar to the winning team but focused on 8 to 12 feet of water and hit more spots from the dam area up to Florida point in the north fork arm of the lake. Their baits of choice were also jigs and worm but also threw a mid depth crankbait. Cathcing the second of only two limits on the day, Jason and Bryan settled for second place with 13.68 pounds.
Fishing their first Joe Bass tournament and finishing in the third position today was John Knudsen and Michael Laffleur. John and Michael fished the Lower third of the lake and found their success dragging a Carolina rigged Baby Brush Hog on main lake points and humps, bringing 3 fish to the scales weighing 9.70 pounds. included in their bag was the second big bass weighing 5.05 pounds.
Lonnie Franklin and Pat Estes found themselves in fourth place today with three fish weighing 9.66 pounds, which the team was Ok with, but included in their bag was the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass Weighing 5.23 pounds Pat stated that the fish fell for the old reliable black and blue jig around noon time.
