The season finale of the Joe Bass Team Trails Truman Division once again proved the strength of a resurgent lake in addition to the mettle of the Truman anglers, as 90 teams assembled at Shawnee Bend in search of a win and qualification points for the October Invitational to be held out of beautiful Bucksaw Resort. Half of the field brought a five fish limit to the scales, with 26 four pound or better fish weighed for big fish/tie breaker.
Closing out the regular season with a victory was the ever-competitive team of Bryce Rieder and Mike Edrington. Their 19.48 pound bag was topped by the Ozark Chevrolet Big Bass of the day, a 6.91 pound behemoth. The duo shared their Sport Boats USA Key to Success included a variety of lures, including topwater, worms, and brush hogs with a key fish on a Trophy Bass Company jig. Mike noted they didn’t catch a ton of fish, with eight keepers scattered on an all-day bite.
Reigning points champions Jerry McCutchen and Kevin Smith came in a close second with a 19.08 stringer. True to form, they amassed their weights throwing jigs and Chompers Boss Hawgs. They concentrated on flipping pole timber in 2’-6’ of water.
A repeat from the August event, Team Smith, Jeff and Jeff A, rounded out the top three. They had a stout bag of 17.77 pounds. Jeff noted they started off slow with the bite picking up later in the day. A Googan Baits soft plastic craw delivered the bulk of their weigh-in fish with a 6th Sense soft plastic and a Whopper Plopper mixed in for good measure.
Mike Rogers and Donnie Crist added to their 4th place take home pay with the Sport Boats USA Highest Finishing Skeeter bonus by putting 17.32 pounds of bass in their 2020 FX Skeeter boat.
The Last Chance event will be September 27th out of Bucksaw with a 7:00am takeoff.
