The 2024 season is upon us! Eager to get the season started. 30 teams descended upon beautiful Buck Creek Marina with hopes of a strong run out of the gate. Recent cooler weather has been dropping the water temperatures, projecting many to believe the annual late fall bite could turn on at any time. Despite cool temperatures at takeoff, the day finished under sunny skies and mild temperatures, but a lack of wind stifled a strong bite. Nonetheless, teams looked to find their names at the top of the Window World Leaderboard while accruing valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held next fall.
Team Blevins picked up where they left off last season with a strong 16.59 pound limit to take the win. As has become customary, Eric and Dustin have learned to have fun with the interview process, suggesting they caught their fish on ice jigs in 30’ of water. They did note their Mid America RV Key to Success was taking advantage of their NAPA big bass of the day, a 4.57 pounder that anchored their bag. Specifics were hard to come by, but there was talk the big fish also bit an ice jig, custom painted in Rustoleum NO TREPASSING purple. Quite a change from making tons of cast with a crankbait!
Landon Edwards and Cody Ellison joined in the fun as they described they caught the 2nd place string of fish. Their best five pushed the scales to 15.16 pounds. Cody smiled while saying they caught all of their fish on a finesse jig off of one boulder in 38’ of water. Great specificity, but was the grin a giveaway?
Richie Huebner and Brandon Lowery rounded out the top three. They were part of the jovial interview group, but asserted they really did go through a couple of limits on a ned rig to catch their stringer. The five bass they brought to weigh-in locked in at 14.37 pounds.
Ron Cox and Marty Whisnant added to their 5th place finish as they took Top Skeeter honors by fishing from their 2005 250ZX Skeeter bass boat.
The second event of the Bull Shoals Division will take place December 16th with a 7:00am takeoff from Buck Creek Marina.
