Lake of the Ozarks Division
Jelinek and Slavens Take LOZ 2018 opener!
Blankenship and Swast Team Up for second!
Rowland and Miller find check line in third!
Cloudy skies and warm temperatures greeted the 50 teams that showed up at PB2 to Kick off the Joe Bass Team Trails 10year anniversary season and early dock talk was all over the place, from top water to bottom baits, fish were biting, but consistency was an issue.
Taking the top spot today was the team of Brad Jelinek and John Slavens. The Warsaw and Deepwater Missouri team decided to fish closer to home and made a long run up the Osage river, targeting shallow docks with brush in 1 to 5 feet of water. Their baits of choice were jigs, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. The Sport Boat USA key to Success was confidence in their area. Brad stated that they found the area in practice, but it wasn’t an all-day bite, they just kept moving around knowing the quality fish would show up eventually. At the end of the day the team’s best 5 fish weighed 19 pounds even anchored by the Ozark Chevrolet Big Joe Bass weighing 5.67 pounds.
Kicking off the division with a second-place finish was the team of Terry Lee Blankenship and Justin Swast. Terry and Justin fished the Mid-lake area, fishing creeks and coves focusing on the back 1/3 throwing whopper ploppers and pitching Crock-O-Gator Muskrats rigged on 4/0 Gamakatsu G-finesse Flippin Hook with a 3/8oz Bullet Weights Tactical Black Tungsten Flipping weight to shallow brush and docks. Included in their 18.08pound bag was the second big bass of the tournament weighing 5.15 pounds Terry and Justin are sponsored by Crock-O-Gator Lures, Humminbird, Lew’s, Minkota and Phoenix Boats.
Taking the third position today with 15.80 pounds was the team of Mike Rowland and Greg Miller. Mike and Greg fished from just outside PB2 to a few miles above the Hurricane Deck Bridge and back, focusing on secondary points culling through a dozen keepers. The team’s primary baits were stickbaits and crankbaits. Mike and Greg are sponsored by Bass Cat Boats Climax Collision and Mullins Marine.
Taking 4th place today was the team of Chad Deaver and Dirk Sluyter. Top water and crankbaits accounted for most of their catch, customized with Crankwraps a new skin for your bait! Their 15.66 pounds was not only good enough for 4th place they were also the highest finishing Skeeter team fishing out of Chad’s ZX200.
50 teams, 151 fish weighed 18 limits
