12/02/17 Bull

Another tournament with mild temperatures and light winds greeted the 45 teams that convened at Buck Creek Marina for the second event of the 2018 Joe Bass Team Trail Bull Shoals Division.

The depth of the field proved the need for a strong bag to cash a check with the majority of the field weighing a five bass limit. As always, the skill of Joe Bass anglers was manifested in their quest for a top finish and qualifying points for the Joe Bass Team Trails Championship at Table Rock Lake in October. The strength of Joe Bass anglers is becoming recognized nationally as the Trail is proud to send an angler to the BASSMASTER Classic for the second year in a row, with Ryan Butler winning the 2018 honors on the heels of Scott Clift’s visit in 2017.

Coming out on top of the second event was the staunch team of Dave and Gene Crisenbery. They put five bass in the boat that weighed a solid 18.74 pounds. Gene noted their Sport Boats USA Key to Success was concentrating on bluff end points in 15-30’ of water with umbrella rigs.

The runner up position went to the consistent team of Eric and Dustin Blevins. Their total for the day pushed the scales to 17.72 pounds. Dustin “shared” they caught their fish on spy baits (or something with a spinner blade) in 72’ (?) of water in Howard Creek (or some creek…). The key to the second place report is the write up will only be as good as the information offered! The threat of “give me something or I’ll make it up” isn’t really a threat, but a promise.

Rounding out the top three was the veteran team of Robbie Dodson Jr and Wesley Ply. Their five fish bag of 16.99 was anchored by the Ozarks Chevrolet Big Bass of 5.6 pounds. Robbie offered they junk-fished a variety of banks both shallow and deep leaning primarily on a jig presentation.

The Sport Boats USA Skeeter Bonus went to Jeff Epley and Kelly Greer as they took another check for 6th place with a limit weighing 13.5 pounds. They fished from Jeff’s 2017 Sport Boats USA ZX250 Skeeter bass boat.

The next event in the Bull Shoals Division is January 6 at 7:00 am, Buck Creek Marina.
