04/20/22 Antique

Following a week that saw a few days of warmer temperatures, a typical spring front moved through just in time for the second event of the Antique Division.  Anglers were greeted with cold temps for take-off, with a brisk day only warming into the upper 50’s.  With the bass staged to make a run for the bank, the puzzle for the day would be to relocate where the better fish are in their annual migration to the pea gravel.  At stake was daily bragging rights and valuable qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held Stockton Lake next fall.

Taking first place in every category was the long-time team of Kelly Jones and Roger Satterfield.  Their tournament winning bag pushed the scales to a whopping 20.80 pounds.  Their bag was anchored by the Ozark Chevrolet Big Bass, a kicker 5.97 pound largemouth.  Kelly and Roger’s Catch Em All Bait & Tackle Key to Success involved running to stained water and working jigs for staging females.  They added some pancake money with Top Skeeter honors as they fished from Kelly’s FX Skeeter boat.

Jay Oliver and Aaron Hodge followed up a solid performance in the season opener with a runner-up position.  Their tournament limit came in at 19.07 pounds, just a tad off of Jay’s weight last month.  Reports say that Jay and Aaron leaned on the jig as well for another top finish.

Rounding out the top three was the division sponsors, Mike Smith and Kevin Maybee.  Their 18.70 pound stringer fell to spinnerbaits and jigs in stained water, although one always wants to doubt the rumor mill when it comes to such things, as tactics were shared “remotely” for the sake of the write-up!

Special thanks to Maybee Insurance and Smith Electric for the support of the division, as well as all the sponsors, including Catch Em All Bait & Tackle where one can utilize a 10% discount by presenting a Table Rock weigh-in slip to the Cape Fair tackle shop.  Be sure and keep your receipts for a chance at $1000 at the Joe Bass Invitational this fall at Stockton.

The next Joe Bass Antique Division event will be Wednesday May 18th with a 6:00 am takeoff from Ahoy’s.
