04/26/25 Pomme

Rising water and fish in the bushes greeted the 45 teams that met at The Harbor to kick off the 2025 Pomme de Terre Division. Dock talk centered on a tough bite with the quick rise scattering fish. At the same time, warming water temps and an April calendar date means that any pitch could result in a Pomme giant and a big bag that could push a team to the top of the Window World Leaderboard, while every keeper boated is good for qualifying for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held this fall on Truman Lake.

The veteran team of Kelly Jones and Roger Satterfield came out on top of the inaugural derby. They both noted the fishing to be a bit tough as they shared their TNT Quick Stop key to success was keeping a jig in the bushes all day. They put 9 keepers in the boat scattered throughout the tournament, with their best five weighing 20.33 pounds. Roger noted their first keeper came within 30 minutes of blast off while their last fish they weighed went in the livewell with less than an hour to go. Kelly and Roger added to their payday as they fished from Kelly’s 2022 ZXR21 to land the Top Skeeter award.

Dusty Richardson and Robert Shackleford, took runner-up honors. Their best five fish locked in at 18.02 pounds.

Sticking with the veteran team theme, long-time sticks Greg Askew and Terry Case rounded out the top three. Their bag pushed the scales to 15.52 pounds. Terry noted they had a limit within the first hour while Greg added they had their weigh-in weight by 10:00 then the bite slowed for them. They pitched a variety of plastics in the bushes to get bit. Greg and Terry are sponsored by Case Works.

Austin Lankford and Parker Tyree added to their 7th place check by boating the Impel Union big bass of the day. Their 6.19 largemouth skewed their 3 fish limit and gave them a total of 10.57 pounds for the day. Austin said the brute bit a jig in a bush around 11:00 in the morning.
