04/30/25 Antique

Next Antique is May 21st with a 6:00am start at Aunt’s Creek

A voice in the crowd at weigh-in noted it wouldn’t be a Wednesday tournament on Table Rock if it wasn’t raining.  And rain it did!  Fortunately for the 46 teams that launched from Port of Kimberling, the rain held off until weigh in, providing for comfortable fishing conditions.  With the water in the bushes, anglers were optimistic for a big bag that could push a team to the top of the Window World  Leaderboard, while every keeper boated is good for qualifying  for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held this fall on Truman Lake.  With a torrential down pour commencing just as the weigh in wrapped up, details were tough to come by, but there should be no surprises with the tactics employed by the top finishers.

The veteran team of Kelly Jones and Roger Satterfield made it two Joe Bass wins in less than a week as they followed up last weekend’s Pomme de Terre victory with another at Table Rock.  Roger noted they stuck to their jig pattern in bushes and trees which proved to be the Maybee Insurance & T-Bone Trukcing key to success.  Their best five were nearly identical to their Pomme weight of 20.33 pounds, locking the scales in at a stout 20.13 pounds.  Kelly and Roger added to their payday as they fished from Kelly’s 2022 ZXR21 to land the Top Skeeter award.

Another veteran team, Dave Mansue and Chad Morgenthaler,  took runner-up honors.  They flipped all day to put 16.75 pounds in the boat.  They used a variety of baits to trigger strikes, including jigs, tubes, and a creature bait.

Sticking with the veteran team theme, Jay Oliver and Aaron Hodge rounded out the top three.  Their bag pushed the scales to 16.30 pounds.  Jay shared they mixed a spinnerbait in with a jig in the brush to catch their fish.  They added to their 3rd place check by boating the Impel Union big bass of the day.  Their 6.08 pound anchor fish came on a jig.

Angler’s Note:  Let’s take care of the fish by fizzing as necessary immediately after the catch.  It’s tough on the fish to be stressed if they’re struggling in the livewell all day, and it adds to the staff’s time after the event to deal with fish care that should have already been provided.

Thank you Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC for sponsoring the release boat!
