A recent round of storms had the lake on a fast rise, with levels coming up nearly a foot in a 24-hour period. Combined with the post spawn conditions, anglers had a myriad of factors to consider when trying to develop a game plan. 44 teams launched at Aunt’s Creek, dealing with flooded ramps and parking areas partially in the water. Take off was greeted with unseasonably cool temps and some patchy fog, but the skill of the Table Rock anglers created a sense of optimism that any team could come out on top of the Window World Leaderboard. Concurrently, every keeper boated is good for qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held this fall on Truman Lake.
Jacob Wade and Robbie Dobson proved they are always a team to be dealt with as they dropped a five fish limit weighing 17.91 pounds on the scales. They noted their Maybee Insurance & T-Bone Trukcing key to success was committing to a glide bait to draw strikes from the bigger fish. They found the fish scattered but managed to work through a dozen keepers on their way to their final weight.
Dave Mansue and Chad Morgenthaler made it two runners up spots in a row, showing their strength on The Rock. Dave and Chad’s five fish bag locked in at 16.47 pounds. Dave explained they made a few adjustments before locking in on a Missile Baits Baby D Bomb flipped to shallow cover. Chad added they had to work through a bunch of fish to put together a strong stringer.
Joe Bass staffers Jim Williams and Bob Capps took the final podium position. Jim said they left the dock with the intention of slinging crankbaits all day, but after Bob put several fish in the boat flipping RAPALA Pig Sticks in shallow cover, Jim made the switch. Their run-and-gun approach gave them a limit that weighed 15.88 pounds. The run-and-gun tactic was made possible as they fished from Jim’s 2021 FX Select Skeeter, giving them the Top Skeeter award.
Danny Smith and Glen Farmer landed the Impel Union big bass of the day. Their 5.16-pound bass anchored their 13.92 limit.
