06/22/25 Truman

The third event of the 2025 Truman division saw the lake 9 feet above summer pool, sweltering mid-90 degree heat and an ever-present strong southwest wind.  Despite the challenging conditions, 66 teams brought 201 bass to the weigh-in, all but two of which were returned to the lake via the Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC release boat.  That says a lot about the attention to fish care as every ounce counts when trying to move up the Window World  Leaderboard as well as stockpiling qualifying points for the Joe Bass Invitational to be held this fall from Bucksaw Resort and Marina.

The veteran Truman team of Wayne Garrison and Billy Greenwell lapped the field with a monster bag weighing 23.61 pounds.  While describing their C&C Valley Transmission key to success, Wayne and Billy noted it took a day of dragging big worms and jigs on mainlake points to get to five keeper bites.   It seems obvious that you would need a kicker to fish to anchor such a big weight, and Wayne and Billy’s 7.14 pound Impel Union big bass of the day definitely fit that description.  The monster bass was caught on a big worm.  Wayne and Billy are sponsored by Billy Greenwell Stables.

Desmond Carl and Tyler Glenn had a strong showing by taking the runner up position.  They flipped jigs and brush hogs to flooded bushes and did most of their damage early before getting their limit fish a bit later in the day.  Desmond and Tyler thank Beatdown Outdoors for their support.

Mike Edrington and Bryce Rieder are no strangers to the check line and secured another money finish by taking the third spot.  Mike said they scattered their five bites throughout the day as they flipped jigs and brush hogs to flood bushes.  Mike and Bryce enjoy the support of Anglers Port Marine, Shoreline Fiberglass Repair and Phoenix boats.

Shane Voyles and Scott Saint Clair added to their 7th place check as they put their five fish limit that weighed 15.60 pounds in Shane’s 2021 ZX225 Skeeter, giving them Top Skeeter honors for the day.

Thanks to Darren Baker for stepping up and taking photos of some of the big bags weighed in as the Joe Bass staff was hustling to get the fish weighed and back in to the lake asap!

Thank you Taylor Grubaugh Chevrolet, Buick & GMC for sponsoring the release boat!

Peyton Stumpf of Trippple P Custom’s will award a replica fishmount valued at $500 to the winner of the big bass award at this fall’s Truman Invitational.  Check out Trippple P Customs for custom painted swimbaits, crankbaits and more!

Theresa Patterson turned a Rapala DT10 crankbait package into a Rapala, Crush City, Storm, VMC and Sufix tackle pack. Drawings are done monthly throughout the tournament season.

The next event in the 2025 Truman division is August 24th with a 6:00am start back at Shawnee Bend.
